Take a tour of Witton Barracks

Witton Barracks 9 Lambert Road, Indooroopilly QLD 4068
Organized by Witton Barracks

Step back in time and discover the rich history of Witton Barracks, as part of the Brisbane Greeters’ tour of Walter Taylor Bridge.

This free tour offers a unique opportunity to visit the last remaining purpose-built structures of the Interrogation Centre, once the nerve centre of the Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS).

These brick cell blocks were the only purpose-built POW cell blocks constructed in Australia during WWII. With preserved cell doors, barred windows, and original locking mechanisms above the doors along the passageway, these brick cells can transport you back to the war time era.

Of course, the tour also highlights another Brisbane icon – the Walter Taylor Bridge.

Built in 1932, the bridge is Australia's only bridge that has a residence built inside the Pylon.

Walk around and across this heritage-listed bridge, enjoy fantastic views of the Brisbane River from the pylon balcony, and delve into the fascinating stories of the people who once lived inside the bridge.
